    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY
    The Town of West Hartford is seeking qualified applicants to provide transportation, on a part time basis, as an 18 passenger Mini Bus Driver for the Town of West Hartford. The Mini Bus Driver will operate the minibus, assist bus patrons, and perform courier services as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Operates minibus on a part time basis.

    • Assists patrons in and out of buses and buildings and ensures the comfort and safety of passengers.

    • Responsible for safe operations of bus relative to checking fluid levels, cleanliness, arranging appointments for maintenance checks and problems.

    • Conducts related work and special assignments as required.
       

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

    • Responsible for pick up and/or delivery of materials to senior centers as necessary.
    • Transportation of seniors to and from Bishops Corner and Elmwood Senior Center for meals and programs
    • Transportation of seniors to and from programs and trips.
    • Performs related work and special assignments as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Graduation from high school or trade school, or have equivalency certificate and experience operating small trucks and vans;

    • "F" Endorsement or higher on CT driver's license.  Applicants or holders of a public passenger endorsement must have an acceptable driving record. 

    • Must complete prescribed First Aid and CPR training, and secure certification regarding both, within sixty (60) calendar days of hire, and commit to self-management of timely recertification activities.

    • Flexible schedule to work days, evenings, and weekends;

    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and effectively organize a daily schedule;

    • Knowledge of streets and building locations in West Hartford, Bloomfield, and Hartford and ability to effectively use a portable navigation system.

    • Must be in good health.

    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and effectively organize a daily schedule.

    • Ability to quickly develop a rapport with clients and other stakeholders.  Outstanding customer service skills, with the ability to interact with residents, seniors and caretakers in a manner that is welcoming and engenders trust and confidence in the Town's public transportation services.

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Must be able to perform continuous bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 25 lbs.
    • Is required to have the dexterity to operate and control tools and equipment required within the essential functions.  Including the use of hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms;
    • Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time;
    • Able to perform in a work environment that is quiet to noisy depending on the task or equipment being used.
    • Must be able to hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate clearly with speech as in using a telephone or providing group training.
       

    Candidate will be subject to background check, physical examination, and drug test, in addition to future random drug testing, as required for a CDL License holder.

    This position is a non-bargaining position, and must abide by all personnel rules, which can be viewed online at: Code of Ethics - Town of West Hartford (westhartfordct.gov) Compensation is non-negotiable: Driver(s) will begin working at $21.00 per hour; and then, after completing 100 work hours of driving with an overall performance rating that exceeds Town management's expectations, the driver is eligible to receive a pay increase to $23.00 per hour.
