Overview

The Credit Intern will support the Small Business Lending Credit team by assisting with due diligence activities, basic reporting, and administrative support. This internship provides hands-on exposure to credit operations, including Credit Administration and Credit Underwriting functions. The intern will help review and validate report data, support documentation processes, and gain familiarity with credit systems and procedures. Based on aptitude, the intern may assist with spreading financial statements in nCino under analyst supervision. This role is designed to provide practical experience and foundational knowledge in commercial credit and lending. BankNewport’s Summer Internship Program will run June 1, 2026 – August 14, 2026 and will be located onsite in Middletown, RI. Actively participate in the BankNewport Summer Internship Program by assisting the department with various duties and tasks. At the culmination of the internship, the intern will create a final presentation to showcase the skills and knowledge acquired through the program.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with due diligence activities for small business lending
  • Support the preparation, review, and validation of basic reports
  • Assist with proving report data and ensuring accuracy of information
  • Perform general administrative and documentation support tasks
  • Organize and maintain credit-related files and records
  • Shadow Credit Administration and Credit Underwriting team members to gain exposure to credit workflows
  • Learn and follow credit policies, procedures, and compliance standards
  • Based on aptitude, assist with spreading financial statements in nCino for analyst review
  • Support additional Credit team projects and initiatives as assigned

 

OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required

Qualifications

 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with data accurately
  • Basic understanding of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • High School Diploma/ GED Equivalent
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

SUPERVISORY SCOPE:

No supervisory responsibility

 

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

  • Performs work within established guidelines and according to specific procedures. 
  • Generally refers specific problems to manager where clarification of policies and procedures is needed.
